About the Language
Italian is often considered the world's most beautiful spoken language, and is part of a cultural heritage including art, architecture, food, literature, and music. It is a Romanic language, one of a group of languages descended from Latin. There are over 60 million native speakers of Italian worldwide in Italy, San Marino, Malta, Switzerland, and many other countries.
Modern Spoken Italian originated as a college curriculum for students learning Italian. Unable to find course materials that emphasized competence in natural communication, the author decided to develop her own. This audio/text course offers an independent study approach to active Italian communication.
