About the Language
Thai is an Asian language of the Tai-Kadai family. It is the national and official language of Thailand and the native language of the Thai people, Thailand's dominant ethnic group, spoken natively by over 20 million people. Some words in Thai are borrowed from Pali, Sanskrit, and Old Khmer. It is a tonal language, one in which pitch is used to distinguish meaning; and an analytic language, conveying grammatical relationships through the use of separate words rather than inflected forms.
