The Arabic language encompasses numerous dialects. Iraqi Arabic differs from Modern Standard Arabic in the pronunciation of certain consonants, vowels, vowel-consonant combinations, and the placement of stresses in some words. This course is designed for you to be quickly oriented in the Iraqi dialect as it is used in common situations. Please Note: This program is intended for those who have already acquired a rudimentary knowledge of Arabic.

About the Language
Arabic is spoken by over 250 million people in the Middle East, across northern Africa, and in much of southwestern Asia. While Modern Arabic is written the same everywhere, many regional spoken dialects have developed, some of which diverge so widely that they might be considered separate languages. Nonetheless, speakers from different parts of the Arab world can often understand each other, particularly if they come from similar educational or cultural backgrounds.
