About the author(s):

Jan Yingst has been a music educator for over 25 years. Jan received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois. She continued taking graduate courses at Indiana University. She received her Master’s degree in Education from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. She has instructed music classes at all grade levels. For the last 15 years she taught vocal technique, music history, keyboard, jazz and rock, and music and movement classes. Under her leadership her Concert Choir performed at various division contests as well as the Music Educators State Conventions, where they received very high ratings. She also directed the school’s Show Choir which received high ratings at district contests. Jan has founded and directed various church choirs and handbell choirs. Jan continues to be very active in her church including conducting the children’s handbell choir. She presently teaches private piano and voice lessons in her home. She lives with her husband George in the northwest suburbs of Chicago where they enjoy gardening, entertaining, and traveling.

Mary Lu Muoletto, Editor and Author, has recently completed 36 years in public education. She obtained a Ph.B. from DePaul University, Chicago, an M.E. from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has completed advanced courses at National Louis University and University of Illinois. She has taught students in the primary and intermediate grades and in the school district’s gifted program. She has served as curriculum supervisor working with teachers at the K-8 level, a director of gifted education, coordinator of state and federal programs, and assistant principal. She is an Associate Instructor at National Louis University.

Mary Lu has served as a chairperson for the State Board of Education Advisory Council in Gifted Education (Springfield, Ill.). She is a member of the University of Illinois College of Education Alumni Association (President, 1982-85 Champaign; Loyalty Award recipient), the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Council for Social Studies, Kiwanis, and Who’s Who in the World. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and photography.
