About the Language
Chinese is spoken by more people than any other language, over one-fifth of the world's population. The language encompasses an array of dialects used in various provinces of China, as well as in Chinese emigrant communities. Mandarin Chinese is the official language of the People's Republic of China, and its phonology is based on the Beijing dialect. Mandarin is also spoken in Taiwan (Republic of China), along with the Taiwanese or Hoklo dialect.
