About the Language
With over 70 million native speakers, Turkish is the most widely spoken language in the Turkic family of languages. It is the official language of Turkey, with smaller groups of speakers in Germany, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Northern Cyprus, Greece, and other parts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The roots of the language can be traced to Central Asia, with the earliest known written records dating back nearly 1,300 years.
