About the author(s):

Barbara Barbour, a teacher of 20 years, has a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in elementary education. She has presented at national conferences, designed, coordinated, and implemented curriculums at the elementary and middle school levels. In addition, she has presented workshops and done state assessment writing in the Midwest and on the East Coast. Barbara teaches fourth grade in the Chicago suburbs. She creates a stimulating learning environment for her students, which gives students a variety of experiences in many areas, so each child achieves success and builds sound critical thinking skills for the world tomorrow.

Sheila Frankel was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She received her B.A. and Master's of Teaching the Gifted and Talented Child from Northeastern Illinois University. Sheila and her husband have three children and are grandparents. She and her husband reside in a suburb of Chicago. She has been a teacher in the Chicago and suburban schools for more than 13 years. She teaches gifted students at the elementary level in the suburbs.

Mary Lu Muoletto, Editor and Author, has recently completed 36 years in public education. She obtained a Ph.B. from DePaul University, Chicago, an M.E. from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has completed advanced courses at National Louis University and University of Illinois. She has taught students in the primary and intermediate grades and in the school district’s gifted program. She has served as curriculum supervisor working with teachers at the K-8 level, a director of gifted education, coordinator of state and federal programs, and assistant principal. She is an Associate Instructor at National Louis University.

Mary Lu has served as a chairperson for the State Board of Education Advisory Council in Gifted Education (Springfield, Ill.). She is a member of the University of Illinois College of Education Alumni Association (President, 1982-85 Champaign; Loyalty Award recipient), the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Council for Social Studies, Kiwanis, and Who’s Who in the World. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and photography.
