About the author(s):
Ruth Emmel received her B.S. degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. She received her M.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison majoring in curriculum and supervision. Ruth began her teaching career in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin and later moved to and taught in one of the school districts in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Ruth was instrumental in organizing the Science Olympics at her school.
Marion Rochelle has recently retired after 28 years of teaching fifth and sixth grade students. Marion was born and raised in Arkansas and received a B.S. degree from the University of Arkansas, and a Master's of Education degree from the University of Illinois, with an emphasis in Reading. She began her career teaching Home Economics to ninth grade girls. Her husband was transferred from the Detroit area to the northwest suburbs of Chicago. After substitute teaching, Marion was offered a teaching position in the elementary grades. She found working with 10 and 11 year olds a challenging and rewarding experience. During her tenure as an elementary teacher, she has served on several district curriculum committees. She represented her school on the mathematics, science, outdoor education, and social studies committees and assisted in recommending the adoption of new textbooks for the school district.
Mary Lu Muoletto, Editor and Author, has recently completed 36 years in public education. She obtained a Ph.B. from DePaul University, Chicago, an M.E. from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has completed advanced courses at National Louis University and University of Illinois. She has taught students in the primary and intermediate grades and in the school district’s gifted program. She has served as curriculum supervisor working with teachers at the K-8 level, a director of gifted education, coordinator of state and federal programs, and assistant principal. She is an Associate Instructor at National Louis University.
Mary Lu has served as a chairperson for the State Board of Education Advisory Council in Gifted Education (Springfield, Ill.). She is a member of the University of Illinois College of Education Alumni Association (President, 1982-85 Champaign; Loyalty Award recipient), the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Council for Social Studies, Kiwanis, and Who’s Who in the World. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and photography.
