This English-Polish Phrase Guide is intended for the traveler in Poland as well as for the increasing numbers of English-speaking people living and working in Poland for extended periods of time. It is a guide to basic Polish expressions, arranged by topic and in order of increasing complexity, serving as both a handbook for getting around Poland and an elementary textbook for those interested in learning to communicate in Polish.
Accompanying audio ensures that pronunciation and intonation are taught in a natural, reliable way, by imitating a native speaker. There is a brief overview of Polish grammar at the beginning, and most sections include a selection of important words in their most frequently used forms.

About the Language
Polish, the native language of about 40 million people, belongs to the West Slavic language family. It is the official language of Poland, and is widely spoken in parts of the neighboring countries of Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine, as well as in Polish emigrant communities all over the world. It is the second most widely spoken Slavic language, after Russian, and has developed a rich literary tradition over the centuries.
