About the author(s):

Lynn Smith received her Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Brockport and her Master of Education degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. She began her teaching career in upstate New York and taught third grade for four years. She moved to the northwest suburbs of Chicago where she taught third and then fourth grade students for 28 years. During that time, she continued to take courses to remain current with educational trends. Lynn served on several building and school district committees such as curriculum, art, budget, and the District Council. She helped brighten the walls of the school with Youth Art Month displays.

Ruth Emmel received her B.S. degree in education from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. She received her M.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison majoring in curriculum and supervision. Ruth began her teaching career in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin and later moved to and taught in one of the school districts in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Ruth was instrumental in organizing the Science Olympics at her school.

Mary Lu Muoletto, Editor and Author, has recently completed 36 years in public education. She obtained a Ph.B. from DePaul University, Chicago, an M.E. from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and has completed advanced courses at National Louis University and University of Illinois. She has taught students in the primary and intermediate grades and in the school district’s gifted program. She has served as curriculum supervisor working with teachers at the K-8 level, a director of gifted education, coordinator of state and federal programs, and assistant principal. She is an Associate Instructor at National Louis University.

Mary Lu has served as a chairperson for the State Board of Education Advisory Council in Gifted Education (Springfield, Ill.). She is a member of the University of Illinois College of Education Alumni Association (President, 1982-85 Champaign; Loyalty Award recipient), the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Council for Social Studies, Kiwanis, and Who’s Who in the World. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, reading and photography.
